Do you have a domain currently registered with one host (i.e., GoDaddy or Google Domains) but the name server is located elsewhere? No worries - this happens quite a bit! To put it simply, the domain you purchased through a Domain Registrar, such as GoDaddy, only references a name server. This means that the DNS records are not automatically stored where the domain is registered.
If your domain is set up this way, leadPops highly recommends changing your name server to point to your existing registrar. Doing so would make it so that your domain can be managed from one place. Also, your DNS records will automatically update to reflect any domain-related changes, including add-on domains and subdomains. This is the quickest, simplest solution and ensures that we can go into your domain host and take your website live when the time comes!
Now that we explained the importance of transferring the name server to your domain registrar, you’ll be relieved to know that it only takes one step to make this happen.
All you have to do is email your domain registrar the following script:
"Please move over the name servers for my domain [website.com] to [domain registrar] from where they are now. What is VERY important is to make sure to move all of the current DNS records when you do that. Please confirm once complete.”
Note: You’ll notice we clarified in the script above that all DNS records must be moved over. If this does not happen, it could interrupt any emails associated with your domain.
There you have it! Once you give your domain registrar control of the name server, you fortunately never have to do it again.
