Granting Access to leadPops for your Domain (Godaddy & Google Domains)

Now that you understand what a domain is and how to purchase one, it's time to point that domain to leadPops so we can launch your website. (Psst: If you're looking to point your domain to an individual form, this is the guide for you.)

To start, you'll need to find where you manage your DNS Settings. Typically, this lives where you purchased your domain (aka your Domain Registrar.) We'll use GoDaddy as an example for our purposes here.

1. Log in to your Domain Registrar and access your DNS Settings

Again, this depends on your domain registrar. If you're using GoDaddy, we recommend checking out their full guide here.  But typically, finding your DNS settings should look something like this:

2018-09-05_1259-2.png

2. Find your domain's A Record and point it to 50.57.205.7

You can think of each "record" as a rule. This rule is what will tell your domain, e.g. idoloans.com, what to do.

There are probably a bunch of records in your account. Look for either your domain or the @ symbol under "Name" or "host." For reference, the @ symbol signifies "at itself."

Each record typically has four components. Make sure that the four components are the following:

  • Type = A Record
  • Name or Host = this is where your domain should be.
  • Value or Points To = 50.57.205.7
  • TTL (Time To Live) = whatever the default is in your account. Typically its listed as 1 hour in GoDaddy. Many other companies use 14400, meaning 14400 seconds or 4 hours.

3. Check your work

You can use third party services such as https://www.whatsmydns.net/ or https://mxtoolbox.com/DNSLookup.aspx. Paste your domain, e.g. idoloans.com, into the blank field.  If all goes well, you should get a green check mark and our IP address 50.57.205.7 will populate.

4. Contact leadPops

Once your domain is pointing to our IP address, send a quick email to support@leadPops.com letting us know you've set it up. Then, we'll flip the switch to "turn on" your website!

5. Something's not quite right?

If you're not sure, no problem! Most of our clients prefer to send support@leadPops.com the username and password for their Domain Registrar. We'll log in and take care of this for you.

Important note: sometimes you've purchased a domain, but the name servers are utilized elsewhere, via a third party. For example, the name servers may be pointed to a separate website or email provider. If that's the case, it's typically pretty obvious because the steps we laid out above won't be available to you. In that case, it's usually best to contact your domain registrar. Let them know exactly what you're trying to accomplish (I want to point my domain to leadPops) and they'll be able to help.

Transferring your domain’s name server to your registrar

Do you have a domain currently registered with one host (i.e., GoDaddy or Google Domains) but the name server is located elsewhere? No worries - this happens quite a bit! To put it simply, the domain you purchased through a Domain Registrar, such as GoDaddy, only references a name server. This means that the DNS records are not automatically stored where the domain is registered.

If your domain is set up this way, leadPops highly recommends changing your name server to point to your existing registrar. Doing so would make it so that your domain can be managed from one place. Also, your DNS records will automatically update to reflect any domain-related changes, including add-on domains and subdomains. This is the quickest, simplest solution and ensures that we can go into your domain host and take your website live when the time comes!

Now that we explained the importance of transferring the name server to your domain registrar, you’ll be relieved to know that it only takes one step to make this happen.

All you have to do is email your domain registrar the following script:

"Please move over the name servers for my domain [website.com] to [domain registrar] from where they are now. What is VERY important is to make sure to move all of the current DNS records when you do that. Please confirm once complete.”

Note: You’ll notice we clarified in the script above that all DNS records must be moved over. If this does not happen, it could interrupt any emails associated with your domain.

There you have it! Once you give your domain registrar control of the name server, you fortunately never have to do it again.

What if I can't or don't want to move my Nameservers?

No problem! You have two options here...

1. You can give the leadPops team access to your Nameserver host and we can make the appropriate changes needed to take your website live.

2. If you can't provide the leadPops team access to your nameservers, you will just need to tell your nameserver host to point your domain name to the new leadPops Secure IP address - 50.57.205.7

If you are selecting option #2 above, it is important to let us know so that we can first set up your new website on our end. That way, once the IP address is changed, it'll immediately be sourcing your new secure leadPops website!

Grant leadPops Access to Your Website Domain

By granting us access it will ensure we can get your website live quickly. To do this, Google Domains provides an option to grant access to your account to someone else. In this case, leadPops.

The email address you will want to grant access to is domains@leadpops.com

Note: sharing a domain does not change ownership of the domain. This just helps grant us access to set up your site on your domain name.

To grant access to leadPops, follow the below steps:

1. Sign in to Google Domains

2. Select the domain that you'll be giving us access to (if you have multiple domain names in your account).

3. Open the menu.

4. Click "Registration Settings".

5. Under "domain permissions" click "permissions".

6. Click "add user" and add the email address domains@leadpops.com

7. Confirm the added user.

That's it!

Granting leadPops Access to My G Suite

When it comes time to launch your website, you need to start by pointing your domain to our IP address. You may either follow along with our guide or ask leadPops to do it for you.

We're happy to do this step for you, and typically only need your username and password to your hosting site.

However, G Suite offers an extra layer of protection through two-factor authentication, making it difficult for us to log in on your behalf. Typically, the easiest route is to add us as an administrator instead.

You can follow along with Google's instructions here, or see our guide below.

How to grant leadPops Admin Access to G Suite

1. Sign in to Google Domains using the Google Account that manages your domain.

2. Select the name of your domain

3. Click Menu Menu and then Email.

4. Under "Add or remove people from G Suite," add Domains@leadPops.com. Then click Edit Edit

5. From the "Permission type" drop-down, change the selection from User to Admin

6. Click Save

3. From there, click on the menu and select Settings > Manager Folders:

4. Then on the "All Domains" folder name, select the Edit pencil under Actions:
